Review: Samsung UN55C8000 LED TV

The Samsung UN55C8000 is the top of the line LED TV option from the company and it comes with a price tag to match, is is very expensive. The most interesting feature of course is the 3D technology which is a big part of what makes it so expensive. Unfortunately the 3D is a bit of a disappointment. Although it will undoubtedly improve in the future for now it isn't quite there. The bigger issue however is that the 2D picture quality on this TV isn't up to the level it should be for a television selling at this price.

The Samsung UN55C8000 LED TV has probably the best black levels of any television on the market. The colour is very accurate is well. This is accomplished through the use of LED technology which works by replacing the fluorescent tube in the back of a standard LCD TV with LED's the advantage of doing this is that is allows you to turn the LED's on and off individually. This produces what is known as local dimming and it was gives LED TV's the dark blacks and accurate colours they are known for. The UN55C8000 does this better than just about any other television on the market.

The downside to LED televisions is that the off angle viewing is quite poor and there are usually some issues with back light fluctuation which leaves a bit of colour tinge amongst the blacks. Unfortunately the Samsung UN55C8000 is worse than most other LED televisions when it comes to these issues. The result is that the picture quality isn't quite up to the standard of other LED TVs in its price range.

The most noticeable feature about the Samsung UN55C8000 is that it offers 3D viewing. This is obviously something that is quite new for a television and it shows, the quality isn't there yet. Although the technology is impressive and it will certainly improve in the future for now the picture quality isn't really very good. It's more a novelty at this point than something you would want to watch on a regular basis.

According to The School of HDTV, there are all kinds of interactive features with the Samsung UN55C8000. There is lots of built in content and there are widgets that will allow you to get all kinds of content off of the internet. Although one negative is that there is no WiFi connection you will need to buy and adapter separately. There are all kinds of picture adjustment controls, so may you probably never figure out what they all do.

The Samsung UN55C8000 is a very expensive LED television and unfortunately it doesn't live up to its price tag. The 3D technology is interesting but it hasn't yet reached the point where it is good enough that you would want to watch it on a regular basis. The bigger issue however is that it lags behind it's competitors with its 2D picture quality.
