Review: Samsung UN55B8000 LED TV

The Samsung UN55B8000 is the most expensive LED television option available from Samsung. Although they are advertised as LED TVs as if they are some brand new technology they are really just LCD TVs that are backlit with LED's rather than a fluorescent tube. While this is certainly an improvement it is a little bit misleading to be suggesting that these are some revolutionary technology. That being said they are a good quality television and one of the better options available, providing that you understand the limitations of LED technology.

The first thing that you will notice about the Samsung UN55B8000 is how thin it is. At just 1.2 inches it is one of the thinnest televisions you are likely to find. It is also one of the most stylish, it is probably the best looking television that you will ever own. This is not an insignificant detail; a television should look good in the room. Of course you don't buy a television to look good, you buy it to watch.

The Samsung UN55B8000 LED TV offers fairly good picture quality but it does have its share of drawbacks. The black levels are excellent and the colors are fairly accurate. There are however some issues with uniformity. The biggest negative however is that the off angle viewing is poor. However this is an issue with almost all LED televisions and the Samsung is really no worse than any other. The other issue is that the screen tends to cause reflections which affect the viewing experience. Overall the picture quality is good as long as you understand the limitations of LED technology.

The Samsung UN55B8000 comes with lots of built in content like games and recipes and a whole lot more, something Samsung HDTV's have been having for a while now. The Yahoo widgets make it easy to get information off of the internet. You can also connect devices like MP3 players and digital cameras in order to display your own content on the screen.

Like all LED televisions the Samsung UN55B8000 is a very energy efficient television. LED's use the least energy of any television and this TV is one of the best. Not only does it use less energy while you are watching it but there are also three power saver modes which will help you save electricity while the TV is turned off.

The Samsung UN55B8000 is the top of the line offering from the company and as a result is quite expensive. Overall it is a good quality television but it has started to be surpassed by newer models. When it first came out it was probably the best LED television on the market but as competitors have brought their versions out they have started to offer better quality.
