Review: Samsung UN55B7000 LED TV

The Samsung UN55B7000 is the middle of the line LED offering from the company. Despite being the middle of the line model it is still very expensive. There are a lot of impressive features and the picture quality is quite good. That being said since it isn't the top of the line model there are going to some areas where there is room for improvement.

The LED technology in the Samsung UN55B7000 provides a significant upgrade in the picture quality over previous LCD TVs. An LED TV is basically just an LCD television that has replaced the fluorescent tube used for back lighting with LEDs. The advantage that this offers is that the individual LEDs can be turned on and off. This produces what is known as local dimming which allows for much deeper blacks than on earlier versions. It also produces colours that are more accurate. The result is a much improved picture quality.

The picture quality on the Samsung UN55BB7000 is quite good but there is room for improvement. While the blacks are deep and the colours are accurate the back lighting does fluctuate with the brightness of the program you are watching. There is also an issue with some of the dark areas having a little bit of blue tinge. Like all LED televisions the off angle viewing is poor, this isn't an issue that is limited to the Samsung, this is a fact of life with all LED TVs Overall the picture quality is quite good but it isn't quite there with the top of the line models.

The Samsung UN55B7000 is very thin, just 1.2 inches, it is the first thing that you will notice about this television. The styling is quite nice although there is a red stripe around the base that many people aren't that impressed with. There are no other colour options you just have to live with the red stripe whether it matches the rest of your decor or not.

One of the most impressive things about the Samsung UN55B7000 is the number of interactive features available, reported by TechnoToon.com. There is lots of content built into the television, things like games and a workout guide and a whole host of other things. The Yahoo widgets make it easy to get information from the internet although they do tend to be a little bit slow. It is also possible to connect other devices like a digital camera or an MP3 player and have the output displayed on the screen. The picture adjustment options are extensive and easy to use.

The Samsung UN55B7000 is one of the better LED televisions on the market but it is also one of the more expensive. It doesn't quite live up to it's price, it's good but not great, unfortunately it is priced at a level where it needs to be great in order to match it's competitors.
