Review: LG 55LH90 LED TV
The LG 55LH90 is the latest offering from LG and it is their first attempt at an LED television. The result is quite impressive, they have produced a television that offers perhaps the best picture of any television in its class. There are few things that this TV doesn't include that you would find on other similarly priced televisions. These oversights are a little bit of a drawback but given the quality of the picture it is still well worth considering the LG 55LH90.
The biggest positive of the LG 55LH90 is the picture quality. This is the first LG model to offer LED technology and it massively improves the picture quality. An LED TV is one that uses LEDs for backlighting rather than a traditional fluorescent tube. The advantage to this is that you can turn the individual LEDs on and off giving local dimming. This results in much better blacks as well as accurate color. LED televisions are starting to rival plasma TVs for picture quality and the LG is one of the best.
On the downside the off angle viewing isn't great, in fact it is downright poor. This is hardly a problem that is exclusive to the LG. All LED televisions have issues with off angle viewing it is just a fact of life. Hopefully this will change in the future but for now this is a price you are going to have to pay if you buy an LED TV. Overall the picture quality is outstanding the compromise to get it is poor off angle viewing, if this is something you can't live with you are going to need a plasma.
The LG 55LH90 has quite a stylish design with and understated look. However according to HomeEntertainmentSite.com it is thicker than some of its competitors which some people may find a negative. It is possible however that this is the reason it has a better picture quality than its competitors.
The LG 55LH90 offers all kinds of options for adjusting the picture, perhaps more than on any other television. It is also one of the most energy efficient TVs on the market. There are lots of inputs so connectivity isn't an issue. On the downside there are no interactive features. This is a pretty big drawback given that other televisions at this price have quite an extensive list of interactive options. There is also no picture in picture.
The LG 55LH90 has one of the best pictures of any LED television on the market, especially the deep black levels. There are a few features missing that you would expect of a television at this price like picture in picture and interactivity but overall this is a very good television that should be considered by anyone looking at an LCD television.
